BACKEL3D
I created the 3D animation and motion graphics for BAKEL's JALU-3D product while working with Sweden Unlimited.
The brief for the assignment was to represent how the product functioned at a skin-cell level without relying on the color and texture conventions typical of skin treatment animations. Thus, we chose to use iridescence as a visual device.
HOW I MADED IT
The most formidable challenge was animating the skin cells healing and the skin being repaired.
I achieved this effect in Houdini using a Vellum simulation for the skin cells and demonstrated the treatment being activated with a burst of particles created using a POP Solver.
WHAT I LEARNED
I thought the iridescent approach and unique colors looked great and served as a key point of departure from typical "scientific" signifiers.
But what made it work was building those unique moments on top of a familiar foundation.
